The CompTIA A + certification is the industry standard for computer support technicians. The international, vendor-independent certification demonstrates expertise in areas such as installation, maintenance, networking, security and troubleshooting. CompTIA A + certified technicians have excellent customer service and communication skills to work with clients.
CompTIA A + is part of the certification process length for companies like Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard, Cisco and Novell. Other technology companies including CompuCom and Ricoh, have CompTIA A + certification mandatory for their service technicians. More than 700,000 people worldwide have CompTIA A + certified since the program's inception in 1993.

The latest version of CompTIA A + is CompTIA A + 2009 Edition. Two tests are required to be certified: CompTIA A + Essentials, 220-701 code audit and CompTIA A + Practical application test code 220-702.
CompTIA A + Essentials measures the necessary competencies of an entry-level IT professional with a recommended 500 hours of practical experience in the laboratory or field. The program reviews the basics of computer technology, networking and security, and communication skills and professionalism needed now all entry-level IT professionals.
Identifies CompTIA A + is an extension of the practical application of knowledge and skills in CompTIA A + Essentials, with a focused hands-on "orientation to scenarios in which troubleshooting and tools must be applied to solve problems.
For candidates certified under earlier versions of the exam:
CompTIA A + Certified Professionals who encouraged or required by their employers to stay current on their certifications have two options:
1. Take the CompTIA A + 2009 Edition (two tests).
2. Only those who are in the latest version of CompTIA A + certified (2006 objectives) of 220-601 and one of the following: 220-602, 220-603 and 220-604 exams are entitled to their currency by taking the CompTIA Update A + bridge exam (an exam), which includes the new targets.

The existing 600 Series CompTIA A + exams remain relevant and are in use by businesses and educational institutions around the world. The English version of these tests is in the U.S., Canada and South Africa to retire on 28 February 2010. The English version is in the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand to retire at 31 August 2010. The educational versions of these tests (JK0-601, JK0-602, JK0-603 and JK0-604), as well as German, Korean, Arabic, Chinese and Japanese translations of 220-601 through 220-604 CompTIA A + tests, remain on the market for use by 31 August 2010.

Why A New Exam?

The CompTIA A + test was updated in 2006. Releasing a new version of the test ensures that CompTIA A + reflects changes in technology and mastered the latest knowledge of IT technicians needed. Additionally, CompTIA A + ISO 17024 accredited and must be reviewed and updated every three years to obtain accreditation.
